This one is a PITA!!! I am putting it here so you can see the links that are not commonly talked about between Dolan and East Texas (Dolans hit men) So, as you will see when it begins transcribing what is written in the margin, it gets a little hinky.. the poor writing, bad spelling, and the fact that he wrote out of order in the margins drove me crazy! So please, help make the corrections where you see fit.

Hon Lew Wallace, Gov

Dear Sir

Times are Keskey here at present Marion Turner got in shortly after you left with 4 of the ____ witnesses and they are running the settlers store so said they all act as clerks. They call your milicia heel flies and make fun of them generally when they meet them. I think that Dudley is trying to get as many of them here as he can so as to start a war in this county again on a large scale if you could get a full company of 60 from some other county. Americans and Mexicans with no offices it would save trouble. i thing don’t let martial law be supported if you can help it while the thing goes as it now does it is enforced under Purington commander there will be many of us killed and subjected to his nasty whims in all thins. The time has come when I think you could manage things with the governor of Toas so as to get warrant for all the fugatives from ___ in ___ pf our countys say this and Santat Grant and Loungwel Kooning at large if you can regulate with him get proper afidavits and also warrants so that they can be placed in the bonds of their offices of the county so that they can be caught and held.i here desire to make a suggestion to you in regard to the Texas men I think that just as long as they remain here at large just that long they and other counties will have trouble. I was informed yesterday that John Kinney is a runaway from Texas for Murder and almost all of those ___ haired chaps are in the same condition it does seem to me that a miscreant of the kind I speak would prove a success than people of all the counties are diserious to have peace but they wont do anything without the authority of law. I don’t want you to think that I am trying to tell you what is your duty I only do it to say what my opinion is in reference to the present state of affairs in your territory. Your hon knows me to be an ignorant man but one that has the good of the county at heart who will never betray you in your plans or duty but will ever help you in good faith. I think they will not let the expedition start to John Riley as long as they can help it. The Joneses and others did not come with Turner for upon warrants was issued the other day you hon. Cannot be or is careful to keep your business in Washington posted as they will no doubt make many false reports against you there through Elkins and others there. I hear that Judge Leonard is going to have all the cases in soloro? But off so that we will not have to go there that will suit me to a dot as I am getting 5 a day after I am examined as witness as interpreter of the court and it will have the effect to give a chance to get Sheilds and Deputy Sheriff Barrier of East Texas as witnesses against Dolan on the case of Murder of Tunstall. They know just what I do about it as there was no one ____ but is three and Jesse Evans present when the case to place if we all get to testify it will make Dolan at least accessory to the crime sergant up to this time so that he can act legally so that he is not in trouble him I now ask him to keep me to the cause and believe me to be your ___ got no new orders but I will keep this letter open until after I put the sergant that now told me that perivey to second protection until in town if he asked it will be given at all so you can reflect on who a ___ man and regardless of orders help us in this evenings mail comes to if he gets any orders in prior ordered____to ___ jusge and nothing else so you can be ---- that is all that not I say and act as you think best as the defendant is of anything serious happens but the better way will be for him to have orders in ___ taken from us as he is the to depend on in a posted on day thersy inreailh I can be of service ___
