Much of Sally's red book journal is her documenting her day to day events. Who wrote her letters, letters she wrote, gives received, places traveled, and sometimes it tends to jump around. Below are only the pages in which Billy appears mentioned. During this time period the Siege of Lincoln County was happening and McSween was murdered. According to her journal, when they first heard news of it, they thought it a false rumor but soon learned it was true. Many of those who have worked hard to authinicate the Crochet Photo think this is when the picture was taken. I dont, looking at all the trees, not just the orchard, this picture was taken in the fall. Which would also explain why everyone is wearing sweaters and dressed for a chilly day, but that is another topic all together. As you will see from her handwriting, it is difficult to read, so if there are errors, please do not hesitate to comment and let me know.

We came to Bosque Grande on the 31st July, 1878. We stayed there 15 days, then started to Sumner on Friday (August 14), its taking us Friday-Saturday and part of Sunday to get there. Made the acquaintance of Mrs. Ballinger on the 21st of August. Had a very nice time while we stopped there. Left there on Wednesday 11 September 1878. Camped first night on the lake north east of Sumner 15 miles. William Bonney and Smith stayed with us that night. Thursday morning at the spring saw 4 squirrels. 12 night camped at a spring. Bought some. When you have sailers over far away reminder her that is left to stray.
